Mystery Snails


Mystery snails are the largest freshwater aquarium snail commonly available. The golden variety is prized for it's bright sunflower colored shell. Keep them in any aquarium where the water is not acid or too alkaline. Feed them whatever you feed your fish or choose an algae based food and they will live for a number of years.

Mystery Snail Varieties


The original mystery was brown and known as an apple snail. This colour and the golden mystery snail are the most common seen amongst the variations of pomacea brigesii. Black mystery snails and are also known. All will breed with one another as they are the same species. Tortoise shell colored shells can sometimes be the result of such pairings.

Mystery snails are omnivores which will eat all kinds of left over fish food. This makes them handy cleaners. They are also an interesting specimen to view and breed. In the golden mystery snails there are small orange dots all over the body in addition to the bright yellow shell.
