The red cherry shrimp is technically an omnivore though they prefer algae. As part of their feeding habits they will scurry over aquarium plants and gravel keeping them free of such algae. If only a handful of sherry shrimp are kept they can usually meet their own nutrition requirements by what they find in the fish tank. These shrimp are not big eaters so only add food for them if kept in large numbers. They can be fed with fish food and blanched vegetables or just an algae wafer.
