These coral are suited to tropical aquariums where they can live well past the life expectation of it's keeper. Even brain corals in the wild are known to live to some 200 years. As the brain coral has no branches it is very unlikely to become damaged by larger fish.

Colors vary from species to species but purple is widely seen. Red, green an blue are also available. Quite often one color will be displayed on the surface ridges while another is shown in the valleys of the brain coral.
Brain Coral Behaviors
Like other corals this one is also made up of many tiny invertebrates. If you observe brain coral during the day you will notice their tiny tentacles catching food. As they wave about small particles are caught and handed to the mouth of the polyp. If viewed during the evening the tentacles will be retracted and housed amongst the ripples of limestone.

Compared with other varieties the brain coral is slow growing. It takes literally centuries for it to reach it's full potential of of nearly two meters. For this reason most brain coral for sale will be a lot smaller.
